Interview My definition of success would have to be looking back at a long, happy and healthy life knowing I lived it to the fullest and took advantage of every opportunity I was given, while making a positive difference in the lives of those I love and care about! Without question, my father Vincent. The world lost a great man March of 2003 when he passed away! My father truly embodied the meaning of the "American Dream" and was an absolute success both personally and professionally. Born in 1922, he fought in WWII with the 749 Tank Battalion and was awarded a purple heart and bronze star for his heroism. After the war ended he opened a small Italian grocery store in Albany, N.Y. and then turned it into one of the largest independent foodservice distributors in the northeast. Along with employing hundreds of people and helping new businesses throughout the years, my father also gave back to the local community and donated very generously to many charities. Yet, the most important thing to him was raising a large and happy family while sharing the fruits of his labor, teaching good morals, a strong work ethic, discipline and true unselfish love. He lived life to the fullest and appreciated it until his last day on earth. I must say that the world was a better place with him in it. He was and will always continue to be the person I admire most! My answer would probably have been much different if I had addressed this question prior to the actual job interview. However, I realize now that no matter what level of education, job experience, determination or confidence one may encompass, you can only learn so much from watching the last season. Actually living through it all is so much more challenging than one can ever, ever imagine! Myself! The greatest challenges we have in life, are the one's we create for ourselves. I wouldn't want the ability to tell the future or read minds. I think that would actually be an incredible burden. I would, however, love the ability to always make those life-altering beneficial and lucrative decisions that we only ever realize we should have made when the opportunity has passed. With this power, I would completely avoid the old saying, "could have, should have, would have" and simply benefit well into the future. |
